So most developers will only need the Partner Edition as it contains the bulk of the useful features that WebDNA has to offer. And although the specific e-commerce tags aren't included, a savvy WebDNA coder can easily work his way around these limitations (with basic mathematical formulas).Since the WebDNA language is still very limited, distributionwise, it's not clear if dividing the coding language into four separate packages will help the community build up or simply balkanize it with the rich developers using a "set of features" nobody else can help them with and therefore, creating unnecessary frustration and resentment.
Maybe WebDNA should think of a way to really get its technology out there by holding some kind of 5,000 free Enterprise Edition licenses for free, or something like that because PHP, Rails, AJAX and Java are all free and they're very powerful. Furthermore, what makes these languages so popular is their community where answers can be found quickly, namely because millions of users are actually coding with them.
The new
WebDNA.us administration team has all it takes to succeed and from the start, the WebDNA coding language will please anyone who uses it but there needs to be a certain dose of reality injected into any marketing plan and until the WebDNA community reaches critical mass (say, over 100 full-time coders, at the bare minimum), it's probably unwise to ask too much money for a technology that's not well know enough, outside specific WebDNA-centric coding circles.
All in all, let's hope the new prices will work and that lots of new customers will join -our- community!
